Famous quotes containing the words blue, springs, state and/or park:

... wounding God with his blue face,
    his tyranny, his absolute kingdom,
    with my aphrodisiac.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Who among us has not, in moments of ambition, dreamt of the miracle of a form of poetic prose, musical but without rhythm and rhyme, both supple and staccato enough to adapt itself to the lyrical movements of our souls, the undulating movements of our reveries, and the convulsive movements of our consciences? This obsessive ideal springs above all from frequent contact with enormous cities, from the junction of their innumerable connections.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)

It is said the city was spared a golden-oak period because its residents, lacking money to buy the popular atrocities of the nineties, necessarily clung to their rosewood and mahogany.
—Administration in the State of Sout, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Mrs. Mirvan says we are not to walk in [St. James’s] Park again next Sunday ... because there is better company in Kensington Gardens; but really, if you had seen how every body was dressed, you would not think that possible.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)
