Future Plans
Jaama Kwa: Connection to Africa - the construction for a multi-million dollar, state of the art, African themed exhibit has recently begun. The new African exhibit will be a new addition to the "African Boardwalk" that is currently housing the zoos collection of African animals. The new exhibit will include the following animals as well as the animals that already are on exhibit in the African Boardwalk.
Prairie Meadow's Rhino Savannah - phase one to the Jaama Kwa: Connection to Africa started construction in spring 2012. This phase of the overall African expansion will include two Black Rhinos (male from Great Plains Zoo and a female from Zoo Miami) will call Des Moines home in May 2013. Phase I will also feature Kori Bustards, Common Eland, African Tortoise, Blue Cranes, & Superb Starlings.
