Black Gold: The Best of Soul Asylum

Black Gold: The Best of Soul Asylum is a compilation album that contains 19 of the greatest hits from Soul Asylum.

The title of the album, "Black Gold" comes from Soul Asylum's song with the same name, which was a hit single on their 1992 breakthrough album Grave Dancers Union.

The disc also contains two outtakes ("Candy From a Stranger" and "Lonely For You") from Soul Asylum's previous album Candy from a Stranger, as well as two previously unreleased live recordings (see below).

Famous quotes containing the words black, soul and/or asylum:

    It is dangerous to leave written that which is badly written. A chance word, upon paper, may destroy the world. Watch carefully and erase, while the power is still yours, I say to myself, for all that is put down, once it escapes, may rot its way into a thousand minds, the corn become a black smut, and all libraries, of necessity, be burned to the ground as a consequence. Only one answer: write carelessly so that nothing that is not green will survive.
    William Carlos Williams (1883–1963)

    O thou soul of my soul! I shall clasp thee again,
    And with God be the rest!
    Robert Browning (1812–1889)

    An earthly dog of the carriage breed;
    Who, having failed of the modern speed,
    Now asked asylum and I was stirred
    To be the one so dog-preferred.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
