Bird Fancier's Lung

Bird fancier's lung is a type of hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by bird droppings. The lungs become inflamed with granuloma formation.

Bird Fancier's Lung (BFL), also called bird-breeder's lung and pigeon-breeder's lung, is a subset of Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP). This disease is caused by the exposure to avian proteins present in the dry dust of the droppings and sometimes in the feathers of a variety of birds. It is mainly present in bird droppings, however. Birds such as pigeons, parakeets, shell parakeets (budgerigars), parrots, turtle doves, turkeys and chickens have been implicated.

Famous quotes containing the words bird and/or lung:

    The bird is lost,
    Dead, with all the music:
While sunsets heard the brain’s music
    Faded to last horizon notes.
    Owen Dodson (b. 1914)

Dylan used to sound like a lung cancer victim singing Woody Guthrie. Now he sounds like a Rolling Stone singing Immanuel Kant.
