William Shirley Collins (March 27, 1882 – June 26, 1961) was an outfielder in Major League Baseball.
On October 6, 1910, while playing for the Boston Doves against the Philadelphia Phillies, Collins became the first major-league player to hit for the natural cycle (a single, double, triple, and home run, in that order).
Famous quotes containing the words bill and/or collins:
“As for farming, I am convinced that my genius dates from an older era than the agricultural. I would at least strike my spade into the earth with such careless freedom but accuracy as the woodpecker his bill into a tree.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“All up and down the whole creation,
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for the old plantation,
And for the old folks at home.”
—Stephen Collins Foster (18261864)
