Big Ask Campaign - Draft Bill

Draft Bill

The Government has now produced a Draft Climate Change Bill with a closing date for responses on 12 June 2007. The Big Ask Campaign has entered its next stage and is campaigning to make the Bill stronger than the Draft Bill. People are being asked to lobby their MPs again to ask them to support a Bill that will:

  • reduce emissions every year so the UK reaches a target of at least 80% cuts by 2050
  • include annual targets so politicians can't blame preceding Governments for missed targets
  • include emissions from international aviation and shipping

Famous quotes containing the words draft and/or bill:

News is the first rough draft of history.
    Philip L. Graham (1915–1963)

The measure discriminates definitely against products which make up what has been universally considered a program of safe farming. The bill upholds as ideals of American farming the men who grow cotton, corn, rice, swine, tobacco, or wheat and nothing else. These are to be given special favors at the expense of the farmer who has toiled for years to build up a constructive farming enterprise to include a variety of crops and livestock.
    Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)
