History

The Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma was inaugurated on 14 March 1876 inside the Collegio Romano, once site of the Jesuit's Bibliotheca Secreta, which set up the initial core of the new library. One century later the library moved to the today's location. The current building was designed by architects Massimo Castellazzi, Tullio Dell'Anese and Annibale Vitellozzi and opened in January 1975.
