History
Dumbleton railway station opened on 23 December 1931 as part of the single-track non-electrified line between Kingsgrove and Herne Bay (now Riverwood). It was renamed Beverly Hills in 1940. In 1939, the line through Beverly Hills was electrified and it was duplicated in 1948. Beverly Hills is unique amongst original East Hills Line stations as it is the only station with asymmetrical platforms, that is, the up platform (platform 1: towards Sydney) is curved but the down platform (platform 2: away from Sydney) is straight. It was one of the last stations in Sydney to use Edmondson-style paper tickets. In the early 2000s, a lift to street level and a covered walkway from the stairs to the station building were added, providing Easy Access for wheelchairs. The station is on the State Register as a Heritage Item.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“the future is simply nothing at all. Nothing has happened to the present by becoming past except that fresh slices of existence have been added to the total history of the world. The past is thus as real as the present.”
—Charlie Dunbar Broad (18871971)
“What you dont understand is that it is possible to be an atheist, it is possible not to know if God exists or why He should, and yet to believe that man does not live in a state of nature but in history, and that history as we know it now began with Christ, it was founded by Him on the Gospels.”
—Boris Pasternak (18901960)
“I cannot be much pleased without an appearance of truth; at least of possibilityI wish the history to be natural though the sentiments are refined; and the characters to be probable, though their behaviour is excelling.”
—Frances Burney (17521840)
