Satellite Craters
By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Bessel.
Bessel | Latitude | Longitude | Diameter |
---|---|---|---|
D | 27.3° N | 19.9° E | 5 km |
F | 21.2° N | 13.8° E | 1 km |
G | 21.1° N | 14.7° E | 1 km |
H | 25.7° N | 20.0° E | 4 km |
The following craters have been renamed by the IAU.
- Bessel A — See Sarabhai (crater).
- Bessel E — See Bobillier (crater).

Famous quotes containing the words satellite and/or craters:
“Books are the best things, well used; abused, among the worst. What is the right use? What is the one end, which all means go to effect? They are for nothing but to inspire. I had better never see a book, than to be warped by its attraction clean out of my own orbit, and made a satellite instead of a system.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Listen.
We must all stop dying in the little ways,
in the craters of hate,
in the potholes of indifference....”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
