Bench Seat - Culture

Culture

The bench seat--as well as some other older car features--are celebrated in the song Stickshifts and Safety Belts by Cake. The bench seat, steering column mounted shifter, and lack of seat belts are praised, as this allows a loved one to sit in contact with the driver. However, most modern bench seats do provide seat belts for all occupants.

Famous quotes containing the word culture:

All our civilization had meant nothing. The same culture that had nurtured the kindly enlightened people among whom I had been brought up, carried around with it war. Why should I not have known this? I did know it, but I did not believe it. I believed it as we believe we are going to die. Something that is to happen in some remote time.
    Mary Heaton Vorse (1874–1966)

The treatment of African and African American culture in our education was no different from their treatment in Tarzan movies.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

A culture may be conceived as a network of beliefs and purposes in which any string in the net pulls and is pulled by the others, thus perpetually changing the configuration of the whole. If the cultural element called morals takes on a new shape, we must ask what other strings have pulled it out of line. It cannot be one solitary string, nor even the strings nearby, for the network is three-dimensional at least.
    Jacques Barzun (b. 1907)
