Beat of My Heart - Reception

Reception

"Beat of My Heart" received generally negative reviews from music critics. Pam Avoledo of Blogcritics stated that Duff is "bored and simply going through the motions in the single The bland electro pop is an insult to the genre". A reviewer from CBBC Newsround commented that the song is "so repetitive you do feel like you've listened to it 20 times after just one play". The reviewer praised the heartbeat present on the track, writing that it "make it a bit of a foot-tapper though", but deemed the lyrics to be "meaningless". Billboard noted that the song "seems to toss her back to her Disney days. Pop music is always appreciated, but this is a kiddie anthem, plain and simple it is hardly a contender for contemporary radio." Bill Lamb of About.com found the song, along with "Break My Heart", to be "disappointing cookie cutter copies" of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi", writing that "They are easy to listen but break no new ground".

In the United States, in contrast to the previous single "Wake Up", "Beat of My Heart" failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 or the Pop 100. Despite this, the song achieved moderate success in certain international markets. The song reached number thirteen in Australia, peaking higher than "Wake Up", and it stayed on the chart for fourteen weeks. In Italy, the song debuted at number ten on the singles chart and peaked at number eight on April 6, 2006. "Beat of My Heart" failed to achieve chart success in Spain and Switzerland, lasting on the Spanish Singles Chart for one week and peaked at number eighty-nine on the Swiss Singles Chart.

Famous quotes containing the word reception:

He’s leaving Germany by special request of the Nazi government. First he sends a dispatch about Danzig and how 10,000 German tourists are pouring into the city every day with butterfly nets in their hands and submachine guns in their knapsacks. They warn him right then. What does he do next? Goes to a reception at von Ribbentropf’s and keeps yelling for gefilte fish!
    Billy Wilder (b. 1906)

I gave a speech in Omaha. After the speech I went to a reception elsewhere in town. A sweet old lady came up to me, put her gloved hand in mine, and said, “I hear you spoke here tonight.” “Oh, it was nothing,” I replied modestly. “Yes,” the little old lady nodded, “that’s what I heard.”
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)

To aim to convert a man by miracles is a profanation of the soul. A true conversion, a true Christ, is now, as always, to be made by the reception of beautiful sentiments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
