Paper Money Collecting As A Hobby

Banknote collecting, or Notaphily, is a slowly growing area of numismatics. Although generally not as widespread as coin and stamp collecting, the hobby is slowly expanding. Prior to the 1990s, currency collecting was a relatively small adjunct to coin collecting, but the practice of currency auctions, combined with larger public awareness of paper money have caused a little interest and values of rare banknotes.

Sanjay Relan, of Hong Kong is holding the Guinness world record since 2007 for collecting 221 banknotes representing 221 different countries. He also held the Guinness world record in 2007 for a short period for collecting 235 coins representing 235 different countries.

To get it right, be born with luck or else make it. Never give up. Get the knack of getting people to help you and also pitch in yourself. A little money helps, but what really gets it right is to never—I repeat—never under any conditions face the facts.
    Ruth Gordon (1896–1985)

While I am in favor of the Government promptly enforcing the laws for the present, defending the forts and collecting the revenue, I am not in favor of a war policy with a view to the conquest of any of the slave States; except such as are needed to give us a good boundary. If Maryland attempts to go off, suppress her in order to save the Potomac and the District of Columbia. Cut a piece off of western Virginia and keep Missouri and all the Territories.

My hobby more and more is likely to be common school education, or universal education.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
