Badge of Honour of The Bundeswehr

Badge Of Honour Of The Bundeswehr

The Badge of Honour of the German Armed Forces (German: Ehrenzeichen der Bundeswehr) is a series of military decorations of the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was introduced in 1980 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Bundeswehr by then Minister of Defence Hans Apel and subsequently approved by President of the Federal Republic Karl Carstens.

The first Badges of Honour were awarded on November 6, 1980. In 2008, the Badge of Honour was upgraded and received three grades exclusively reserved for heroic deeds. The new awards were the result of a petition by German citizens to restore the order of the Iron Cross.

Famous quotes containing the words badge of, badge and/or honour:

Signor Antonio, many a time and oft
In the Rialto you have rated me
About my moneys and my usances.
Still have I borne it with a patient shrug,
For sufferance is the badge of all our tribe.
You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog,
And spit upon my Jewish gaberdine,
And all for use of that which is mine own.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Repose and cheerfulness are the badge of the gentleman,—repose in energy.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I shall not want Honour in Heaven
For I shall meet Sir Philip Sidney
    And have talk with Coriolanus
And other heroes of that kidney.
