Former Decorations & Medals

From its formation in 1949 the Ceylon Armed Forces used British military decoration. However with a suspension of nominations for British honors in 1956, use of British decorations ceased in the Ceylon Armed Forces. Until Ceylon became a republic and a new form of military decorations were introduced in 1981 the following were used;

  • Officer of the Order of the British Empire (Military Division)
  • Member of the Order of the British Empire (Military Division)
  • Ceylon Armed Services Long Service Medal (1961 - 1972)
  • Efficiency Decoration (Ceylon)
  • Efficiency Medal (Ceylon)

Famous quotes containing the word decorations:

    Let the realist not mind appearances. Let him delegate to others the costly courtesies and decorations of social life. The virtues are economists, but some of the vices are also. Thus, next to humility, I have noticed that pride is a pretty good husband. A good pride is, as I reckon it, worth from five hundred to fifteen hundred a year.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
