Consumer Products For Windows

Avira offers three security products for Microsoft Windows:

  1. Avira Free Antivirus: This edition is free of charge. It runs as a background process which checks every file opened or downloaded. Like many antivirus programs, it can run a full or custom scan to check the computer for malware in order to remove them. It updates its virus definitions automatically everyday by default using the Internet.
  2. Avira Antivirus Premium: The Premium edition includes all features of the Free edition plus:
    • Email scanning, which supports POP3 and SMTP protocols
    • WebGuard to block access to malicious sites
    • Technical support
  3. Avira Internet Security: The Internet Security edition includes all features of the Premium edition plus:
    • An anti-spam module to block unsolicited emails
    • A personal firewall to block hackers
    • A backup module to protect and secure important data
    • Prevent dangerous botnets from taking the computer system
    • Parental controls to block websites unsuitable for children and teenagers

Avira offers a set of free tools including a "Rescue System" utility used to write a bootable CD which can be downloaded as an EXE or ISO file. It has its own Linux-based operating system so it does not depend on the host PC's. It can be used to clean an unbootable PC, and is able to find malware which uses the host's operating system to hide (e.g., some rootkits). The tool contains the antivirus program and the virus database current as of the time of download. It boots the machine into the antivirus program, then scans for and removes malware, also restoring normal boot and operation. It is updated frequently so that the most recent security updates are always available.

Famous quotes containing the words consumer, products and/or windows:

The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied ... but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

It seemed there was a sort of poisoning, an auto-infection of the organisms, so Dr. Krokowski said; it was caused by the disintegration of a substance ... and the products of this disintegration operated like an intoxicant upon the nerve-centres of the spinal cord, with an effect similar to that of certain poisons, such as morphia, or cocaine.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)

    “Try speaking. Say ‘Hello!’”
    “Hello. Hello.”
    “What do you hear?”
    “I hear an empty room—
You know it sounds that way. And yes, I hear
I think I hear a clock and windows rattling....”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
