Aviation High School (Washington) - Admission

Admission

Admission is based on grades, 7th grade WASL scores, interest in the theme of aviation, student behavior and family. Each applicant is interviewed for 30 minutes, and must complete a 12 page application where they demonstrate their writing abilities. Students must volunteer for 10 hours per year in order to graduate. Students say that this goal is easily met by volunteer opportunities offered by such student run clubs such as INTERACT and the National Honor Society. Only 100 students are accepted yearly, although in the 07-08 year 124 students were accepted. In many ways the process is like that of a private institution, except without tuition.

Famous quotes containing the word admission:

The admission of Oriental immigrants who cannot be amalgamated with our people has been made the subject either of prohibitory clauses in our treaties and statutes or of strict administrative regulations secured by diplomatic negotiations. I sincerely hope that we may continue to minimize the evils likely to arise from such immigration without unnecessary friction and by mutual concessions between self-respecting governments.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Powerful, yes, that is the word that I constantly rolled on my tongue; I dreamed of absolute power, the kind that forces to kneel, that forces the enemy to capitulate, finally converting him, and the more the enemy is blind, cruel, sure of himself, buried in his conviction, the more his admission proclaims the royalty of he who has brought on his defeat.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

The admission of the States of Wyoming and Idaho to the Union are events full of interest and congratulation, not only to the people of those States now happily endowed with a full participation in our privileges and responsibilities, but to all our people. Another belt of States stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
