Autistic Self Advocacy Network - National Branch and Local Chapters

National Branch and Local Chapters

The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network has a national branch in Washington, DC, and numerous chapters across the United States. These chapters' focuses are diverse, but are all somehow focused on collaborative self-advocacy. These chapters often host social groups for Autistic people.

ASAN's chapters sometimes work collaboratively with the national branch on nation-wide projects; an example of this is Day of Mourning, an event on March 1 where local chapters of ASAN, as well as independent groups, host candlelight vigils in remembrance of disabled people murdered by their caregivers.

Famous quotes containing the words national, branch, local and/or chapters:

There is no national science just as there is no national multiplication table; anything that is national is not scientific.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

What can the dove of Jesus give
You now but wisdom, exile? Stand and live,
The dove has brought an olive branch to eat.
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

To see ourselves as others see us can be eye-opening. To see others as sharing a nature with ourselves is the merest decency. But it is from the far more difficult achievement of seeing ourselves amongst others, as a local example of the forms human life has locally taken, a case among cases, a world among worlds, that the largeness of mind, without which objectivity is self- congratulation and tolerance a sham, comes.
    Clifford Geertz (b. 1926)

Never did I read such tosh. As for the first two chapters we will let them pass, but the 3rd 4th 5th 6th—merely the scratching of pimples on the body of the bootboy at Claridges.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
