Australian Science and Mathematics School - Curriculum

Curriculum

The ASMS is a specialist science and mathematics school, however it offers a comprehensive curriculum which covers all learning areas necessary for students to achieve their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) qualification. If the ASMS does not offer a desired subject, the student will be transported by government-paid taxi to a neighbouring (or "Alliance") school for their lessons in that subject. The Year 10/11 curriculum is organised into interdisciplinary Central Studies; these alternate every year to ensure that a student will not do the same subjects twice. The Year 12 curriculum consists of standard SACE Stage 2 subjects, such as the various Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities subjects.

There are eight rotating Central Studies classes (two each semester) along with a maths program called Order and Chaos and a Student Inquiry Project. The eight Central Studies are "Earth and Cosmos", "Biotechnology", "Biodiversity", "Nanotechnology", "Body in Question", "Communication Systems" and "Tech World". These subjects offer both scientific and english components that are necessary for students to achieve their level 1 SACE.

Famous quotes containing the word curriculum:

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
