Arts Academy of Hollywood - History

History

The academy was founded by Linda Strutz in 1993. Linda, the daughter of a ballet instructor, taught Early Childhood Education in the Broward Schools. After witnessing several cuts in art education programs, Linda decided to open her own arts education facility, combining years of dance training with her Master's degree in early childhood education. She purchased the Broward Ballet Academy and made it into Academy of Dance, in downtown Hollywood, Florida. There she taught ballet and special programs to all ages, and put on annual performance productions to rave reviews. In 2004, she expanded that Academy into a full performing arts curriculum for all ages, the Arts Academy of Hollywood. For over 11 years Linda has been an entrepreneur, ballet teacher, educator, administrator, and business owner. The academy closed due to financial difficulties in March 2009.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    Don’t give your opinions about Art and the Purpose of Life. They are of little interest and, anyway, you can’t express them. Don’t analyse yourself. Give the relevant facts and let your readers make their own judgments. Stick to your story. It is not the most important subject in history but it is one about which you are uniquely qualified to speak.
    Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966)

    ... in a history of spiritual rupture, a social compact built on fantasy and collective secrets, poetry becomes more necessary than ever: it keeps the underground aquifers flowing; it is the liquid voice that can wear through stone.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

    You that would judge me do not judge alone
    This book or that, come to this hallowed place
    Where my friends’ portraits hang and look thereon;
    Ireland’s history in their lineaments trace;
    Think where man’s glory most begins and ends
    And say my glory was I had such friends.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
