Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson International Airport - History

History

A.N.R. Robinson International Airport is located on the south western end of Tobago and is about 11 km (6.8 mi) from Scarborough. It was opened in 1940 and is a small, informal airport. Tourism is the main employment sector on Tobago, and Crown Point flights therefore carry many tourists in addition to the inter-island traffic.

Plans for the construction of a new terminal at the airport were announced in the 2010-2011 budget presentation by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Formally known as Crown Point Airport, the airport was renamed the Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson International Airport on May 19, 2011 in honour of the only Prime Minister and President from the island of Tobago.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of philosophy is to a great extent that of a certain clash of human temperaments.
    William James (1842–1910)

The history of American politics is littered with bodies of people who took so pure a position that they had no clout at all.
    Ben C. Bradlee (b. 1921)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
