Bandy is the biggest sport in the city and is considered a national sport in Russia. Vodnik nine times became the Russian champion (1996–2000 and 2002–2005). Arkhangelsk hosted the Bandy World Championships in 1999 and 2003. The 2011–2012 season Russian Bandy League final was played here 25/3.
