Argentina at The Rugby World Cup

Argentina At The Rugby World Cup

Argentina have competed in all six Rugby World Cups, having made their first appearance in the inaugural 1987 tournament. Their best result was in 2007, where they defeated the host side France in their opening game. After defeating their other opponents in Pool D, they proceeded to the knockout stage where they defeated Scotland in the quarter finals, before losing in the semi finals to eventual champions South Africa. In the Bronze Final they once again faced France, whom they succeeded in defeating for a second time to attain third place.

They also progressed past the pool stage in 1999, where they succeeded in defeating Ireland in the quarter final place-offs, but lost in the quarter finals to France.

Argentina has yet to host the World Cup. The Argentina national team is the most successful of any national side from the Americas at the tournament. As the team topped their pool in 2007, they automatically qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or cup:

We placed the wreaths upon the splended granite sarcophagus, and at its feet, and felt that only the earthly robe we loved so much was there. The pure, tender, loving spirit which loved us so tenderly, is above us—loving us, praying for us, and free from all suffering and woe—yes, that is a comfort, and that first birthday in another world must have been a far brighter one than any in this poor world below!
    Victoria (1819–1901)

I believe that water is the only drink for a wise man: wine is not so noble a liquor; and think of dashing the hopes of a morning with a cup of warm coffee, or of an evening with a dish of tea! Ah, how low I fall when I am tempted by them! Even music may be intoxicating. Such apparently slight causes destroyed Greece and Rome, and will destroy England and America.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
