History of AFL Video Games

Arena Football is not the first video game to feature the AFL. However, it can be considered the first simulation (as opposed to arcade-style) AFL game. Other AFL games are:

  • Kurt Warner's Arena Football Unleashed (2000) - PlayStation - Midway Games - A completely arcade-style video game that was based on the NFL Blitz game engine.
  • Arena Football '95 (1995) - Atari Jaguar - V-Real - Unreleased game that made it about half way through development before cancellation.
  • Arena Football (1988) - Commodore 64 - Chris R. Bickford III - Independently coded text-based game for the C64 back during the early years of the AFL.

Famous quotes containing the words video games, history of, history, video and/or games:

It is among the ranks of school-age children, those six- to twelve-year-olds who once avidly filled their free moments with childhood play, that the greatest change is evident. In the place of traditional, sometimes ancient childhood games that were still popular a generation ago, in the place of fantasy and make- believe play . . . today’s children have substituted television viewing and, most recently, video games.
    Marie Winn (20th century)

There is no example in history of a revolutionary movement involving such gigantic masses being so bloodless.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

We attempt to remember our collective American childhood, the way it was, but what we often remember is a combination of real past, pieces reshaped by bitterness and love, and, of course, the video past—the portrayals of family life on such television programs as “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best” and all the rest.
    Richard Louv (20th century)

The rules of drinking games are taken more serious than the rules of war.
    Chinese proverb.
