Arena (band) - History

History

Arena was founded in 1994 by Clive Nolan keyboardist of Pendragon and Shadowland, and Mick Pointer, the original drummer of Marillion until 1983. Other members include bassist John Jowitt of IQ, who had been with them between 1995 and 1998 and eventually returned in 2011; in the interim, the bassist was Ian Salmon, another (former) member of Shadowland.

Most of the band's lyrics are written by Nolan, though Pointer contributed lyrics to Sirens and other tracks on the first two albums.

Musically the band's style ranges from symphonic to hard rock. Some of the band's recent albums have a similar sound to Nolan's earlier band, Shadowland.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In front of these sinister facts, the first lesson of history is the good of evil. Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I believe that in the history of art and of thought there has always been at every living moment of culture a “will to renewal.” This is not the prerogative of the last decade only. All history is nothing but a succession of “crises”Mof rupture, repudiation and resistance.... When there is no “crisis,” there is stagnation, petrification and death. All thought, all art is aggressive.
    Eugène Ionesco (b. 1912)

It is remarkable how closely the history of the apple tree is connected with that of man.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
