Arakelov Theory - Arithmetic Chow Groups

Arithmetic Chow Groups

An arithmetic cycle of codimension p is a pair (Z, g) where ZZp(X) is a p-cycle on X and g is a Green current for Z, a higher dimensional generalization of a Green function. The arithmetic Chow group of codimension p is the quotient of this group by the subgroup generated by certain "trivial" cycles.

Famous quotes containing the words arithmetic and/or groups:

‘Tis no extravagant arithmetic to say, that for every ten jokes,—thou hast got an hundred enemies; and till thou hast gone on, and raised a swarm of wasps about thine ears, and art half stung to death by them, thou wilt never be convinced it is so.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)

... until both employers’ and workers’ groups assume responsibility for chastising their own recalcitrant children, they can vainly bay the moon about “ignorant” and “unfair” public criticism. Moreover, their failure to impose voluntarily upon their own groups codes of decency and honor will result in more and more necessity for government control.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)
