Family

Browne married Jane, the daughter of William Farrington at an undetermined point, but, as the marriage was childless, most of his estate was left to his brother George and various friends. His most lasting creation is Brentwood School, created as ‘The Grammar School of Anthony Browne, Serjeant at the Law, in Brentwood’.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

    The family story tells, and it was told true,
    of my great-grandfather who begat eight
    genius children and bought twelve almost new
    grand pianos. He left a considerable estate
    when he died.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    I am the family face;
    Flesh perishes, I live on,
    Projecting trait and trace
    Through time to times anon,
    And leaping from place to place
    Over oblivion.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)

    It is as when a migrating army of mice girdles a forest of pines. The chopper fells trees from the same motive that the mouse gnaws them,—to get his living. You tell me that he has a more interesting family than the mouse. That is as it happens.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
