As co-founder and co-president of This is that, Carey has developed and produced Tod Williams' film The Door in the Floor which was distributed by Focus Features, a company which This is that has a first look deal with. She was an executive producer on Mike Mills' Thumbsucker which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, and she has executive produced Nicole Holofcener's Friends with Money. Carey's film The Ex was financed by 2929 Productions and was released by The Weinstein Company in 2007.

In early 2007, Carey, together with This is that business partners Ted Hope and Anthony Bregman, was ranked #25 on The Hollywood Reporter's first annual "Indie Power 50" survey, which highlighted executives, producers, and financiers in the independent film community.

Current and upcoming releases which Carey has worked on include The Savages (released on November 28, 2007), Trainwreck: My Life as an Idiot, and Towelhead which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival and on which Carey served as executive producer. Carey, along with Ted Hope and Sidney Kimmel, also produced the recently-completed film Adventureland, directed by Greg Mottola.
