Animals Count

Animals Count is a minor political party in the United Kingdom campaigning on animal rights, founded in December 2006 by Dutch national Jasmijn de Boo of Kennington, London and Shaun Rutherford of Milford Haven, Wales. The party aims to bring attention to animal welfare and environmental issues, in a manner similar to their Dutch equivalent, Party for the Animals (Partij voor de Dieren), which de Boo stood for in the 2004 European elections. de Boo likens the party to the anti-slavery and universal suffrage movements. The party says it has more than 100 members, mainly in London and Wales. As of October 2010 the Party elected a new leader Vanessa Hudson whose aims are to now increase awareness of the Party and grow it's membership.

Famous quotes containing the words animals and/or count:

The vast results obtained by Science are won by no mystical faculties, by no mental processes other than those which are practiced by every one of us, in the humblest and meanest affairs of life. A detective policeman discovers a burglar from the marks made by his shoe, by a mental process identical with that by which Cuvier restored the extinct animals of Montmartre from fragments of their bones.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

When a thought of Plato becomes a thought to me,—when a truth that fired the soul of Pindar fires mine, time is no more. When I feel that we two meet in a perception, that our two souls are tinged with the same hue, and do as it were run into one, why should I measure degrees of latitude, why should I count Egyptian years?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
