On 30 November 2012 Lancel was charged with 5 counts of sexually abusing a child. He was bailed to appear at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court on 19 December 2012.
On 3 December 2012 the Liverpool Echo revealed the star's role in the Christmas pantomime was being reviewed.
Following this on 5 December 2012 it was reported that he had quit his role in the pantomime stating that "recent events have made it difficult for me to continue in the role".
