American Eagle (roller Coaster)

American Eagle (roller Coaster)

American Eagle is a two track racing wooden roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, United States. It was manufactured by Intamin of Switzerland (their first wooden roller coaster ) and built in 1981 by the contracting firm Figley-Wright. While this record has since been relinquished, American Eagle was the tallest (drop height) and fastest wooden roller coaster ever at the time of its completion, and is still one of the premier racing wooden roller coasters in the United States. In 2006, American Eagle celebrated its Silver Anniversary.

Famous quotes containing the words american and/or eagle:

    No slogan of democracy; no battle cry of freedom is more striving then the American parent’s simple statement which all of you have heard many times: ‘I want my child to go to college.’
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

    O thou undaunted daughter of desires!
    By all thy dower of lights and fires;
    By all the eagle in thee, all the dove;
    By all thy lives and deaths of love;
    By thy large draughts of intellectual day,
    And by thy thirsts of love more large then they;
    By all thy brim-fill’d Bowls of fierce desire,
    By thy last Morning’s draught of liquid fire;
    By the full kingdom of that final kiss
    That seiz’d thy parting Soul, and seal’d thee his;
    Richard Crashaw (1613?–1649)
