Aluminate - Sodium Aluminate

Sodium Aluminate

Sodium aluminate, NaAlO2, is often found in anhydrous (water-less) crystals. Commonly used in the isomerization process of alkenes and amines, sodium aluminate is an extremely dangerous substance. It is classified as very corrosive both to metals as well as human skin. Also, when ground into powder, sodium aluminate displays traits similar to solid sodium metal which is highly explosive. For these reasons, extreme caution is encouraged when handling sodium aluminate.

Every reader of the Dreiser novels must cherish astounding specimens—of awkward, platitudinous marginalia, of whole scenes spoiled by bad writing, of phrases as brackish as so many lumps of sodium hyposulphite.
