All India Students Association

AISA, All India Students' Association is a radical left students' organization, associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation. Feeling the need to defeat the forces of far right communal fascism, and conservative neo-liberalism, and to fulfill the task of building a pan-India radical students' movement so as to not only win the struggle for students' rights, but also to channel the energy of country's youth into the task of nation building on progressive lines, AISA was founded in Allahabad on 9 August 1990. It came into existence with the merger of many like minded state-based students' organizations like All Bihar Students' Association, All Bengal Students' Association etc., to form an all-India level students' organization.

Taking up the challenge of "defeating the forces of communal fascism in the campuses of North India", AISA contested the students' union elections, and giving a blow to the ABVP (World's largest student organisation & nationalist youth front of India), emeged victorious in the SU elections in prestigious universities of India e.g. Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Allahabad University, Garhwal University etc. Recently in 2007, it swept all four Central Panel posts in the SU elections in Jawaharlal Nehru University. The organization is currently at the forefront of struggle going against the Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations, Privatization and Commercialization of Education through different means e.g. the Right to Education Bill, Yashpal Committee recommendations etc., Lapses in implementation of OBC reservation, rights of Female Students, Dalits, Minorities, Backward and the Unprivileged sections of students. AISA fought a sustained struggle for the correct implementation of OBC reservation and Supreme Court recently gave its final verdict in the case relating to the 27% reservation for OBCs in central universities allowing 10% relaxation for OBC students below the minimum eligibility criteria of the general category.

The organization is currently operating in 16 states of India, namely Delhi, UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Assam, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Orissa, Tripura, Maharashtra.

Recently, AISA held its 7th National Conference in Kolkata, West Bengal. The current National President of AISA is Sandeep Singh and its current National General Secretary is Ravi Rai.
