Early Life
Ashfaq was born in Malé, capital the Republic of Maldives, where he grew up with his mother and brother. He reputedly showed a keen interest in football from a very young age and preferred playing football to attending school. He was captain of the Majeediyya School football team when it played in the Interschool Football Tournament.
