Famous quotes containing the words alexander, james and/or adams:

    When Alexander Pope strolled in the city
    Strict was the glint of pearl and gold sedans.
    Ladies leaned out more out of fear than pity
    For Pope’s tight back was rather a goat’s than man’s.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

    The fatal futility of Fact.
    —Henry James (1843–1916)

    We thinke that Paradise and Calvarie,
    Christs Crosse, and Adams tree, stood in one place;
    Looke, Lord, and finde both Adams met in me;
    As the first Adams sweat surrounds my face,
    May the last Adams blood my soule embrace.
    John Donne (1572–1631)
