Albert Yeung - Community Services and Charity Work

Community Services and Charity Work

Embracing the mission "From the community, To the community", Yeung has been actively involved in community services. He was the Charter President of “Lion Club of South Kowloon” in 1976. Under his leadership, the Group has established four foundations in order to coordinate charitable works. In early 2004, the Group set up the “Hong Kong Daily News Foundation” to leverage the media’s influence to attract more donations. In 2008, Yeung set up "Albert Yeung Sau Shing Charity Foundation" under his own name, which is dedicated to supporting non-profit sports, educational and cultural activities.

Yeung donated nearly 20 million dollars after the earthquake hit Sichuan in May 2008. To recognize Beijing Olympic gold medalists' contributions to sports development in China, he also awarded 12.6 million dollars to the 63 athletes.

The Jackie Chan and Albert Yeung Charity Foundation, founded by Chan and Yeung themselves, donated RMB 10 million dollars to the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the PRC as a special fund to support the relief efforts after the earthquake in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province in May 2008.

Famous quotes containing the words community, services, charity and/or work:

Populism is folkish, patriotism is not. One can be a patriot and a cosmopolitan. But a populist is inevitably a nationalist of sorts. Patriotism, too, is less racist than is populism. A patriot will not exclude a person of another nationality from the community where they have lived side by side and whom he has known for many years, but a populist will always remain suspicious of someone who does not seem to belong to his tribe.
    John Lukacs (b. 1924)

Civil servants and priests, soldiers and ballet-dancers, schoolmasters and police constables, Greek museums and Gothic steeples, civil list and services list—the common seed within which all these fabulous beings slumber in embryo is taxation.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

Reputation is not of enough value to sacrifice character for it.
—“Miss Clark,” U.S. charity worker. As quoted in Petticoat Surgeon, ch. 9, by Bertha Van Hoosen (1947)

I am not describing a distant utopia, but the kind of education which must be the great urgent work of our time. By the end of this decade, unless the work is well along, our opportunity will have slipped by.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
