List of Alavid Amirs

  • Hasan ibn Zaid, known with the regnal name al-Da'i ila'l-haq (864-884). He was forced to abandon Tabaristan briefly for Daylam in 869 and 874 due to invasions
  • Muhammad ibn Zaid, also known with the regnal name al-Da'i ila'l-haq (884-900). Rule in Tabaristan proper was usurped by Abu'l-Husain Ahmad ibn Muhammad for a few months as Muhammad was in Gurgan at the time of Hasan's death. Tabaristan was overrun briefly by Rafi ibn Harthama in 891–893, and in 900 Muhammad tried to conquer Khurasan, but was defeated and killed by the Samanids. The Samanids captured Tabaristan, and the Alavis fled to Gilan in exile (900-913).
  • Hasan ibn Ali al-Utrush, (914-917). Converted the Gilites and Dailamites to the Zaidi doctrine, recovered Tabaristan

Split of Alavis into factions supporting either the designated heir Hasan ibn Qasim, commander of the army, or the sons of al-Utrush:

  • Abu Muhammad Hasan ibn Qasim, also known with the regnal name al-Da'i ila'l-haq (917-928, in 923-927 in exile).
  • Abu 'l-Husain Ahmad ibn Hasan, surnamed Nasir Kabir (919,923)
  • Abu 'l-Qasim Ja'far ibn Hasan, surnamed Nasir Kabir (919, 923-924)
  • Abu Ali Muhammad ibn Abu 'l-Husain Ahmad (924-927)
  • Abu Ja'far Husain ibn Ahmad (927, again briefly under Samanid suzerainty in 929)

Famous quotes containing the words list of and/or list:

Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.
    Janet Frame (b. 1924)

Hey, you dress up our town very nicely. You don’t look out the Chamber of Commerce is going to list you in their publicity with the local attractions.
