Alagoas provides visitors and residents with various sport activities. There are several soccer clubs based in the state, such as ASA de Arapiraca, CRB, CSA and Corithians Alagoano.
Maceió was one of the 18 candidates to host games of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for which Brazil is the selected host, but it did not make the final cut.
