Airtours International Airways - History

History

Launched in March 1991 with just five MD83 series aircraft, Airtours International Airways was to be the in-house airline of Airtours Holidays.

In 1993, Airtours acquired Aspro Holidays (Ireland) including Aspro's Inter European Airways subsidiary. This acted to further strengthen the process of vertical integration that was becoming popular among UK holiday companies.

In 1996, Airtours took full control of Scandinavian airline PremiAir.

In 2004, as part of the final phase of its financial restructuring, Airtours International Airways was re-branded as MyTravel Airways UK. PremiAir, the Scandinavian operator, was re-branded as MyTravel Airways A/S.

In June 2007 it was announced that MyTravel Airways UK was to merge with Thomas Cook Airlines, and that MyTravel Airways' Scandinavian subsidiary was to become Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia. The merger between the two UK airlines was completed in March 2008 and the rebranding of MyTravel Airways A/S was completed in May 2008.

(Airtours International Airways became MyTravel Airways, which was then re-branded as Thomas Cook Airlines)

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of philosophy is to a great extent that of a certain clash of human temperaments.
    William James (1842–1910)

Regarding History as the slaughter-bench at which the happiness of peoples, the wisdom of States, and the virtue of individuals have been victimized—the question involuntarily arises—to what principle, to what final aim these enormous sacrifices have been offered.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

All history attests that man has subjected woman to his will, used her as a means to promote his selfish gratification, to minister to his sensual pleasures, to be instrumental in promoting his comfort; but never has he desired to elevate her to that rank she was created to fill. He has done all he could to debase and enslave her mind; and now he looks triumphantly on the ruin he has wrought, and say, the being he has thus deeply injured is his inferior.
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)
