Abdul Basith (volleyball)

Abdul Basith was born in Hyderabad, A.P. and was captain of the Indian national volleyball team and came from the state of Andhra Pradesh. In 1989 he was awarded the Arjuna award. He was also a member of the Indian team which won the bronze medal in 1986 Seoul Asian games beating Japan.

Known for his gentlemanly conduct, fair play, and tall frame, Basith was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1989.

He died in 1991 after having been electrocuted. After his death, the Abdul Basith Memorial Volleyball Tournament was founded in his memory.

Basically Abdul Basith Siddiqui's family belong to Town Nanauta, District Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh, the place where Maulana Qasim Nanautvi Rahmatullah Alaih, the founder of Madarsa Darul Uloom Deoband belongs to. Still one of Abdul Basith's brother lives in the town with his family.
