Famous quotes containing the words special, family, guy and/or christmas:
“When we walk the streets at night in safety, it does not strike us that this might be otherwise. This habit of feeling safe has become second nature, and we do not reflect on just how this is due solely to the working of special institutions. Commonplace thinking often has the impression that force holds the state together, but in fact its only bond is the fundamental sense of order which everybody possesses.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“the dark ajar, the rocks breaking with light,
and undisturbed, unbreathing flame,
colorless, sparkless, freely fed on straw,
and, lulled within, a family with pets,
and looked and looked our infant sight away.”
—Elizabeth Bishop (19111979)
“Maggio: Just hate to see a good guy get it in the gut.
Corporal Buckley: Youd better get used to it, kid. Youll probably see a lot of it before you die.”
—Daniel Taradash (b. 1913)
“The seventh day of Christmas,
My true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming.”
