289th Military Police Company

The 289th Military Police Company (-) was activated on 1 November 1994 and attached to Hotel Company, 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard), Fort Myer, Virginia. Hotel Company is the Regiment's specialty company; it is also one of the most diverse organizations in the United States Armed Forces.

The unit's most recent deployment sent a squad with B Co, 2/3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment to Djibouti.

The 289th MP Co (-) was a platoon size element consisting of 43 personnel hand-selected throughout the Army for their proven discipline and proficiency in Military Police tasks. These Military Police personnel perform numerous ceremonial and tactical missions supporting The Old Guard. The 289th's missions include providing and training State and Territorial flag bearers, conducting memorial affairs in Arlington National Cemetery, and conducting tactical training. Tactically, these Military Police personnel maintain proficiency in all MP missions, such as area security, maneuver and mobility support operations, civil disturbance, and training on Military Police operations in support of tactical and/or strategic combat missions.

The Military Police assigned to The Old Guard must be able to alert, assemble, and deploy in support of contingency operations directed by The Old Guard. On 15 August 2004, the 289th Military Police Company (-) was integrated into the Fort Myer Military Police Company creating "Team 289th" falling under The Old Guard's Special Troops Battalion.

Team 289th is authorized 159 soldiers, noncommissioned officers, and officers as a Military Police Company in the Old Guard's Brigade Combat Team which also includes the 947th K-9 Detachment. Team 289th's mission now includes leading team security in the National Capital Region and providing law enforcement for Fort Myer and Fort McNair in addition to the various missions of the 289th Military Police Company (-). Team 289th stands ready to complete any mission as directed by The Old Guard.
