2013 Mediterranean Games
The XVIIth Mediterranean Games (Turkish: 2013 Akdeniz Oyunları, or XVII. Akdeniz Oyunları), will be held June 20-30, 2013 in Mersin, Turkey. It will be the 17th edition of the Games, and is to feature 32 sport disciplines.
Initially, the games were scheduled to be held in Volos and Larissa, Greece, but they were stripped of the hosting rights on 28 January 2011. Mersin was decided by the voters in an online poll on 2 March 2011 (other candidates were Tripoli, Libya and Tarragona, Spain.)
It is expected that more than 4,000 athletes from 24 countries will participate. There will be a total of 260 medal events from 27 different sports.
