1990 England Rugby Union Tour of Argentina

1990 England Rugby Union Tour Of Argentina

This second tour of Argentina by England was apparently arranged without Geoff Cooke's knowledge, and at an inconvenient time of the year for the England players in July and August. For this reason, eight England players declined the invitation to make the trip, and the only seasoned internationals on the tour were Will Carling, Richard Hill, Wade Dooley, Brain Moore, Jeff Probyn and Peter Winterbottom. Who is to say which of them, with the advantage of hindsight, inwardly wished that they had too had declined the invitation.

Famous quotes containing the words england, union and/or tour:

Our king went forth to Normandy,
With grace and might of chivalry,
The God for him wrought marvellously,
Wherefore England may call and cry
    Deo gratias, Deo gratias Anglia
    Redde pro victoria.
Unknown. The Agincourt Carol (l. 1–6)

Every good cause gained a victory when the Union troops were triumphant. Our final victory was the triumph of religion, of virtue, of knowledge.... During those four years, whatever our motives, whatever our lives, we were fighting on God’s side. We were doing His work. What would this country have been if we had failed?
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Left Washington, September 6, on a tour through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia.... Absent nineteen days. Received every where heartily. The country is again one and united! I am very happy to be able to feel that the course taken has turned out so well.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
