1986 Los Angeles Raiders Season

The 1986 Los Angeles Raiders season was their 27th in the league. They were unable to improve upon the previous season's output of 12–4, winning only eight games. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

The 1986 season was marked by highly competitive games (only three of the Raiders' sixteen regular season games were decided by more than a touchdown). The campaign also marked the end of storied quarterback Jim Plunkett's career.

Famous quotes containing the words los, angeles, raiders and/or season:

... when I finish reading People, I always feel that I have just spent four days in Los Angeles. Women’s Wear Daily at least makes me feel dirty; People makes me feel that I haven’t read or learned or seen anything at all.
    Nora Ephron (b. 1941)

Many people I know in Los Angeles believe that the Sixties ended abruptly on August 9, 1969, ended at the exact moment when word of the murders on Cielo Drive traveled like brushfire through the community, and in a sense this is true. The tension broke that day. The paranoia was fulfilled.
    Joan Didion (b. 1935)

This is our fate: eight hundred years’ disaster,
crazily tangled like the Book of Kells:
the dream’s distortion and the land’s division,
the midnight raiders and the prison cells.
    John Hewitt (b. 1907)

Life contracts and death is expected,
As in a season of autumn.
    The soldier falls.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
