Famous quotes containing the words providence, steam, roller and/or season:

    Who can ... guess how much industry and providence and affection we have caught from the pantomime of brutes?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    A steam ran small and terrible and shrill;
    it was so still;
    the stream ran from the oak-copse
    and returned and ran
    back into shadow.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

    And thus Snow White became the prince’s bride.
    The wicked queen was invited to the wedding feast
    and when she arrived there were
    red-hot iron shoes,
    in the manner of red-hot roller skates,
    clamped upon her feet.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    The landscape was clothed in a mild and quiet light, in which the woods and fences checkered and partitioned it with new regularity, and rough and uneven fields stretched away with lawn-like smoothness to the horizon, and the clouds, finely distinct and picturesque, seemed a fit drapery to hang over fairyland. The world seemed decked for some holiday or prouder pageantry ... like a green lane into a country maze, at the season when fruit-trees are in blossom.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
