174th Street (IRT White Plains Road Line)

174th Street is a local station on the IRT White Plains Road Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of 174th Street and Southern Boulevard in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx, it is served by the 2 train at all times, and the 5 train at all other times except during late nights and rush hours in the peak direction.

The station is built on a curve which results in large gaps between center doors and the platform. The gaps are almost wide enough to need gap fillers. As of April 28, 2008, most of the station's gaps have been filled, during mostly weekday constructions.

Famous quotes containing the words street, white, plains and/or road:

Women are the people who are going to relieve us from all this oppression and depression. The rent boycott that is happening in Soweto now is alive because of the women. It is the women who are on the street committees educating the people to stand up and protect each other.
    Nontsikelelo Albertina Sisulu (b. 1919)

...there was the annual Fourth of July picketing at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. ...I thought it was ridiculous to have to go there in a skirt. But I did it anyway because it was something that might possibly have an effect. I remember walking around in my little white blouse and skirt and tourists standing there eating their ice cream cones and watching us like the zoo had opened.
Martha Shelley, U.S. author and social activist. As quoted in Making History, part 3, by Eric Marcus (1992)

We hold on to hopes for next year every year in western Dakota: hoping that droughts will end; hoping that our crops won’t be hailed out in the few rainstorms that come; hoping that it won’t be too windy on the day we harvest, blowing away five bushels an acre; hoping ... that if we get a fair crop, we’ll be able to get a fair price for it. Sometimes survival is the only blessing that the terrifying angel of the Plains bestows.
    Kathleen Norris (b. 1947)

He taught me the mathematics of anatomy, but he couldn’t teach me the poetry of medicine.... I feel that MacFarland had me on the wrong road, a road that led to knowledge, but not to healing.
Philip MacDonald, and Robert Wise. Fettes (Russell Wade)
