At the time of its release, Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars received mixed to positive reviews. IGN's Craig Harris criticized the game's dialogue elements, saying that it is over-saturated and detracts from the overall experience. Play Magazine however described the game as a "more than welcome breath of fresh air on the GBA", giving it a perfect score in their April 2002 issue.
