Zeon - Cultural Significance

Cultural Significance

In the book "Seikai Seifuku" wa kanou ka? by Toshio Okada, the Principality of Zeon is given as an example of a realistic Conquer the world reason (to end the unjust rule of the Earth Federation against spacenoids). It is a rare example (for its time) of an anime arch-enemy having a clear reason for conquering the world (the other major example being Space Battleship Yamato). It is also an uncommon example of a rebellion group under an unjust rule being portrayed as evil instead of just.

The Principality of Zeon can also be compared to World War II Nazi Germany. The strategy and tactics used in the war is enlarged to a global (or space) scale, yet the ideal and methods are basically the same.

The Hong Kong Comic World 2009 voice over competition's workers' uniforms were replicas of the uniforms of the 4 different ranks of the Zeon forces.

Famous quotes containing the words cultural and/or significance:

To recover the fatherhood idea, we must fashion a new cultural story of fatherhood. The moral of today’s story is that fatherhood is superfluous. The moral of the new story must be that fatherhood is essential.
    David Blankenhorn (20th century)

The hypothesis I wish to advance is that ... the language of morality is in ... grave disorder.... What we possess, if this is true, are the fragments of a conceptual scheme, parts of which now lack those contexts from which their significance derived. We possess indeed simulacra of morality, we continue to use many of the key expressions. But we have—very largely if not entirely—lost our comprehension, both theoretical and practical, of morality.
    Alasdair Chalmers MacIntyre (b. 1929)
