History
Originally formed while still students at Christchurch's Cashmere High School, Zed (Originally known as "Supra") is the dream child of Nathan King, Ben Campbell and Adrian Palmer, along with manager Ray Columbus.
King felt the band needed a second guitarist and Andrew Lynch was hired in that capacity in 2000.
The band worked with producer David Nicholas on their first album Silencer. Rhythm and vocal tracks were recorded at Revolver Studios in Auckland, with final overdubbing and mixing at Mangrove Studios, north of Sydney, Australia. Recording sessions were over in seven weeks, although soon after each band member and some of the production staff were struck by flu.
Silencer was released in 2000 in New Zealand. The album debuted at number one on the New Zealand Album Charts, quickly achieving triple platinum status, and creating six hit singles. "Renegade Fighter" was also the number-one song in New Zealand for the year 2000.
Zed took a hiatus in 2005, and the band members tried separate musical ventures. King launched a solo career and is now based in London. Campbell and Palmer formed a new band, Atlas, which disbanded in late 2008. Lynch is working as a session musician in Auckland.
The band reunited in 2008 for a one off performance at the Vector Arena, and again in 2011 for two Telecom staff parties in Auckland and Wellington.
