Zara Phillips - Marriage

Marriage

On 21 December 2010, Buckingham Palace announced her engagement to rugby union player Mike Tindall, who plays for Premiership side Gloucester and the England national team. She received a diamond and platinum engagement ring from Tindall. She lives with Tindall at their home in Gloucestershire. The couple met during England's Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia in 2003, being introduced by Zara's cousin, Prince Harry.

The wedding was held on 30 July 2011 at the Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland. The bride wore a Stewart Parvin dress and the Meander tiara. This tiara belonged to her great-grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who became Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark. It was a tiara that her mother also wore.

Famous quotes containing the word marriage:

Divorce is probably of nearly the same date as marriage. I believe, however, that marriage is some weeks the more ancient.
    Voltaire [François Marie Arouet] (1694–1778)

Christianity as an organized religion has not always had a harmonious relationship with the family. Unlike Judaism, it kept almost no rituals that took place in private homes. The esteem that monasticism and priestly celibacy enjoyed implied a denigration of marriage and parenthood.
Beatrice Gottlieb, U.S. historian. The Family in the Western World from the Black Death to the Industrial Age, ch. 12, Oxford University Press (1993)

For the marriage bed ordained by fate for men and women is stronger than an oath and guarded by Justice.
    Aeschylus (525–456 B.C.)
